GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) Anime Review

 GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)

"GTO" is a popular anime and manga series called "Great Teacher Onizuka," known for its entertaining and engaging storyline. It is a unique Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the talented Tooru Fujisawa. The manga was joyfully serialised from 1997 to 2002 in Weekly Shōnen Magazine, and it has since become trendy worldwide.

The story follows Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old ex-biker gang member who courageously embarks on a new journey to become a high school teacher. He is incredibly ambitious and aspires to become a truly exceptional teacher. Although his teaching methods may be unorthodox and unconventional, they often result in lighthearted and humorous situations. Despite his unique appearance and limited teaching experience, he possesses a genuine sense of care and actively strives to support his students with their individual challenges, ultimately earning their trust and admiration.

What I most like about this series is that the main protagonist is that he is the most carefree person. He is very rude, unprofessional, and utterly shameless these are the qualities that you expect from X gang member. He is also not very good at actually teaching the students. but when it comes to the movements that really matter Onizuka really comes forward for his students. He gets the task of reforming the most notorious class in the school. These students have deep resentment towards the adults and they are out to get rid of every homeroom teacher they get. This does not affect Onizuka as he was always labelled the problem child. He does not fit into the neat little box of societal expectations. The biggest strength of Onizuka is his guts. The guts to go to where other teachers won't go to help his students. He might seem like a bad guy on the outside, but he can't help listening to his heart. it's his heart that moves him to action in order to save his students, whether it is saving from other people or from themselves and it's these movements that end up defining him as a teacher. the student gravitates towards him because he does not hide anything from them. He also treats the students like his close friends. This is what helps the students to put down their guard and be around him.

It all comes down to his philosophy as a teacher, because you see what Onizuka excels at is teaching you how to approach life. To him, school should be an adventure. Learning should be like a playground and every day should be spent enjoying yourself in the present rather than letting the past and people's labels of you define you. These are just ideals simple ones at that but he sells them because he embodies what it means to be real. He's a man of his word when he says something he does it. Deep down Onizuka understands the importance of cherishing your youth and being a person you can be proud of. It's the principles that guide him and allow him to take so many hits and he gets hit a lot to the point that you start to wonder how he's such an inspiration or even the main character, people constantly berate him and make a fool out of him and he often does look pathetic but strangely enough, he still manages to look like a hero I would say it's due to what's in his heart but it's not just that it's not just about feelings it's about action. He'll go to any length to help his students and it's this tenacity that makes you want to believe in him, in his words and let me just emphasize that everything he does borders on insanity but it's always to answer the call of those who need help. To be a friend to the friendless, to give a voice to the voiceless, kind of like a superhero that recklessly endangers miners and almost gets them all killed just to get them to learn a lesson.

He is not what you traditionally expect from a teacher and this is what makes this anime so unique. this is what I liked about it so much. In my opinion, it is a really good anime, I would recommend you to read the GTO manga as the anime has a very rushed ending. the anime is the watered-down version of the manga. to get fully involved it is recommended to read the manga.
